Contact your senators: Call their district offices, write them an email, go to a town hall, or set up a meeting with them while they’re in town.
If you’re ready to call your senator, you can get connected to them directly by calling the Senate Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Here are some tips for making the most of your call.
Even if you’re expressing disagreement, be respectful. The person on the other end of the line could be an intern or an unpaid staffer, and it’s important to be kind even in our disagreement.
Be brief and concise. Your call will be recorded as a tally mark, not in detail. So no need to spend too long on the phone.
At the top of the call, mention that you are a constituent. Your call will be more impactful if the staffer knows you are from their state.
Keep it short, sweet, direct, and to the point.
Hi, my name is [name], and I’m a constituent from [city]. I’m calling because the state of our federal judiciary is alarming and concerning. The Supreme Court has issued devastating decisions that will have lasting effects on our lives. Equal opportunity, separation of church and state, the government’s ability to fight climate change, and abortion rights have all been significantly weakened by the extreme decisions of the Supreme Court. We need a path forward — and one critical way is to ensure our lower courts are filled with diverse judges committed to equal justice. There are a number of nominees waiting for the Senate to act. Please prioritize filling every judicial vacancy this year with nominees who will protect the rights of all of us, not just the wealthy and powerful.
